Moldenhauer stars as the Lake Erie Crushers defeat the Washington Wild Things, 6-5

A superb effort by Russell Moldenhauer hoisted the Lake Erie Crushers (8-11) to a 6-5 win over the Washington Wild Things (11-7) on Friday at Consol Energy Park.

Moldenhauer rocked the Washington Wild Things with two home runs. Moldenhauer went 3-3 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Moldenhauer homered in the first and seventh innings.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the seventh, with four lead changes.

Jordan Wellander brought the heat against the Washington Wild Things during his outing. Wellander held the Washington Wild Things hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

C.J. Beatty racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Washington Wild Things. He homered in the second inning.

Matt Smith recorded his second win for the Lake Erie Crushers even though he allowed five runs over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

William Scott couldn't get it done on the mound for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
