Steve McQuail brought home the go-ahead run to give the Schaumburg Boomers (1-0) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Schaumburg Boomers hung on to beat the Windy City ThunderBolts (0-1) 6-2 on Thursday.
With the score tied at two, McQuail came to the plate and reached on an error, scoring Chad Mozingo.Brian McConkey got a hit in each of his three at bats. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and eighth innings.
A bright spot for the Windy City ThunderBolts in the defeat was Mike Recchia, who allowed only three runs while striking out eight.
Matt Kuna recorded his first win of the year for the Schaumburg Boomers. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered one hit.
