The Regina Red Sox take out the Weyburn Beavers with help from Young, 5-3

Josh Young had two extra base hits, helping the Regina Red Sox (30-9) to a 5-3 victory over the Weyburn Beavers (17-20) on Sunday at Currie Field.

He homered in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Chris George pitched lights out for the Regina Red Sox. George held the Weyburn Beavers hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.

Joseph Iorio paced the Weyburn Beavers at the plate. Iorio went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.

Shawn Spainhoward got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He allowed three runs over four innings. Spainhoward struck out two, walked one and gave up six hits.

Kurtis McCallum ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed five runs.

The Regina Red Sox were sparked by Geoff MacDonald and Young, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.
