Pepperdine baseball head coach Steve Rodriguez announced the signing of 2015 recruit Jonathan Pendergast.
Pendergast is a 6-2 right-handed pitcher out of San Diego, Calif. He is the second and final signing of the NLI period for the Waves, joining fellow pitcher Easton Lucas in the Waves’ 2015 recruiting class.
“Jon is a big, strong right-handed pitcher who will develop into a power pitcher as he gets older,” said Rodriguez. “He has a quick arm with three quality pitches. His pitches have lots of life to them which plays well here in Malibu. Jon should contribute right away on the mound with his ability to throw strikes at the bottom of the strike zone. He is a very good student and will do an excellent job off the field as well.”
Pendergast played his prep ball at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, making 10 starts and compiling a 6-0 record last season as a junior. He posted a 2.67 ERA, tossing three complete games and striking out 39 batters along the way.
Pendergast is ranked 44th nationally and ninth in California by Max Preps, and was named to Perfect Game’s All-America Games Top Prospect Team. The righty earned PG Undeclass High Honorable Mention and was named WWBA National Championship Most Valuable Pitcher as well. He played for the Tampa Bay Rays’ scout team this past summer.
