Another returnee from the 2013 championship team, Gutierrez continued those winnng ways this spring at Texas Tech as he helped lead the team back into the national rankings for the first time in nearly a decade. The Lonestar State native hit .347 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs and scored 41 runs. Gutierrez was named a Freshman All-American in 2013, posting a .251 batting average along with seven home runs and 29 runs batted in. He was also a first team All-State selection in his senior year at Sharyland High School.
