As a freshman at Vandy, Coleman played in 31 games, and started 18 of those contests while driving in six runs and stealing three bases. Prior to college, Coleman was a four-year starter and three year captain at Simeon HS and hit at a .525 clip during his senior year, earning him All-State honors. Simeon won back-to-back city championships in his junior and senior years. He also made the Team USA 18U 40-man roster.
