A member of the weekend rotation for Lafayette College in 2013, sophomore southpaw Toby Schwartz will represent the Patriot League on the SteepleCats’ roster this summer.
A 10-game starter this spring, Schwartz picked up two victories – one of those being a complete-game shutout – in a span of 52 2/3 innings. The Ramsey, N.J., native struck out 25 on the year and only surrendered one home run in that span. That followed a freshman campaign that saw him named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and contribute as a starter, as well.
A four-year varsity starter at Bergen Catholic High School in Northern Jersey, Schwartz earned Second-Team All-State honors as a senior. He earned several academic distinctions while in high school as well, earning himself a scholarship to a highly selective Patriot League program such as Lafayette.
