DJ King begins his professional career with the Thunderbolts in 2021. He signed as a free agent on November 30, 2020. King was twice drafted by Major League Baseball teams - in the 21st round by the Marlins in 2014 and in the 35th round by the White Sox in 2015 - but elected not to sign.

He played for two years at Valdosta State University, where he batted .344 with a .409 on-base percenteage, ten stolen bases and six home runs over 77 total games. He also spent two years at Hillsborough Community College and led the Hawks as a sophomore with a .386 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage. He went to Fort Meade High School in Fort Meade, Florida.
