An ace performance by Connor Bach hoisted the Vienna River Dogs (23-18) to a 10-9 win over the Southern Maryland Nationals (15-26) on Sunday at James Madison High School.
Bach's 12 strikeouts were enough to push the Vienna River Dogs past the Southern Maryland Nationals. The Vienna River Dogs' pitcher tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.
Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 19 total runs and 18 hits during the game. Both bullpens were busy with nine pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.
The Vienna River Dogs would not relinquish the lead as the Southern Maryland Nationals were unable to weather a 10-run sixth inning deficit.
The Southern Maryland Nationals scored on , , , , an RBI single by Brandon Gum, an RBI single by Ricky Alfonso, and an RBI single by Bryce Shemer in the eighth inning and a two-run single by Gum in the ninth inning. Still, the Southern Maryland Nationals couldn't draw even.
Collin Fishman was charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked three and struck out four.
