The Herndon Braves take out the Southern Maryland Nationals with help from Weiks, 6-2

Jourdan Weiks went 2-5, sparking the Herndon Braves (10-12) to a 6-2 victory over the Southern Maryland Nationals (7-15) on Sunday at Regency Furniture Stadium.

He singled in the second and seventh innings.

The Southern Maryland Nationals couldn't get anything going as long as Tyler Easterly was on the mound. Easterly gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his three innings of work.

The Herndon Braves couldn't get anything going so long as John-Austin Shepard was on the hill. Shepard held the Herndon Braves hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Michael Costello got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered six hits.

Austin Poretz (1-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
