Michael Adkins brought home the winning run to give the Lake Erie Monarchs (19-19) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Lake Erie Monarchs hung on to beat the Cincinnati Steam (24-14) 2-1 on Saturday.
After Andrew Sohn singled, Adkins reached on an error, scoring Sohn.The Lake Erie Monarchs got the win thanks in large part to James Bourque's dominant, seven-strikeout performance. Bourque allowed one earned run, three hits and six walks over seven innings.
The Cincinnati Steam were led by a flawless day at the dish by Robby Sunderman, who went 2-2 against the Lake Erie Monarchs' pitching. He singled in the first and fourth innings.
Brian Kirschbaum (1-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed two runs.
