Joe Ford brought home the winning run to give the Dayton Docs (1-0) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Dayton Docs hung on to beat the Lake Erie Monarchs (0-1) 2-1 on Friday.

After Zach Mosbarger singled, Ford came to the plate with one out in the sixth and grounded out, scoring Mosbarger.

Mosbarger got on base three times in the game for the Dayton Docs. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the sixth and eighth innings.

The Lake Erie Monarchs couldn't get anything going as long as Trent Szkutnik was on the mound. Szkutnik gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his three innings of work.

Jacob Brewer was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Dayton Docs batters and allowing zero runs.

Luke Joyce was charged with the loss. He lasted just two innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
