The Southern Illinois Miners (31-21) jumped on the London Rippers (20-32) early on their way to a 5-4 win on Monday at Labatt Park, scoring four runs in the first inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners held off the London Rippers, as the London Rippers were unable to overcome a four-run first inning deficit.

The London Rippers scored on an error in the first inning, a groundout by Joash Brodin in the third inning, an RBI single by Brodin in the fifth inning, and a groundout by Matt Wright in the seventh inning. Despite their efforts, the London Rippers couldn't get over the hump.

Jake Kaase racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Southern Illinois Miners. He homered in the first inning.

Brian Fowler got the win, running his season record to 4-4. He allowed four runs over seven innings. Fowler struck out two, walked four and gave up six hits.

Jamie Richmond (5-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just eight innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
