An awesome effort by Aaron Gates carried the Southern Illinois Miners (12-9) to a 5-4 win over the Gateway Grizzlies (9-14) on Tuesday at GCS Ballpark.

Gates rocked the Gateway Grizzlies with three home runs. Gates went 4-5 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Gates homered in the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Craig Massoni got on base three times in the game for the Gateway Grizzlies. He scored one run and had two RBIs. He homered in the first inning.

Dyllon Nuernberg got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven, walked three and surrendered six hits.

Jon Jones (0-1) took the loss for the Gateway Grizzlies. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
