Zack weatherford collected three hits, helping the Regina Red Sox (3-1) to a 5-1 victory over the Yorkton Cardinals (1-3) on Thursday at Jubilee Park.

He singled in the fifth and seventh innings and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Regina Red Sox relied on Parks Smithey to eat up innings en route to the win. Smithey pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out two.

Despite the loss, the Yorkton Cardinals' Camran Bonnema dominated the Regina Red Sox's batters, giving up one run and striking out five.

Michael Schofield had two extra-base hits for the Yorkton Cardinals. He doubled in the fourth inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Derek Marshall was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed four runs.
