Hawkins helps the Medicine Hat Mavericks down the Okotoks Dawgs 7-3

Brody Hawkins had two extra base hits as the Medicine Hat Mavericks (3-2) took home a 7-3 victory over the Okotoks Dawgs (2-3) at Seaman Stadium on Thursday.

He doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning.

J.P. Stevenson had an impressive outing against the Okotoks Dawgs' lineup. The Okotoks Dawgs managed just one hit off of Stevenson, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Dane Tofteland was hot from the plate for the Okotoks Dawgs. Tofteland went 3-4 and drove in one. He singled in the second, sixth, and eighth innings.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks had no answer for Jeremy Newton, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Medicine Hat Mavericks managed just one hit off of Newton, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his two innings of work.

Zac Wittmus got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered six hits.

Dylan Nelson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked two and struck out six.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks' Ryan Kemp, Bryan Arthur and Hawkins combined for six hits and five RBIs.
