The Weyburn Beavers get key pinch-hit in 12-5 victory over the Edmonton Prospects

Brenden Meade was cold coming off the bench, but Meade warmed up quickly as Meade stroked a key pinch-hit single in the two to lead the Weyburn Beavers (2-0) to a 12-5 win over the Edmonton Prospects (0-2) on Monday at Tom Laing Park.

With the Weyburn Beavers leading by one, Meade came to the plate and singled.

The Weyburn Beavers blew out the Edmonton Prospects thanks to 14 hits, including zero extra base hits. A home run by Spencer Mallonee helped the Weyburn Beavers score four runs in the second. The Weyburn Beavers had four hits in the inning.

Reed Lavallee had two extra-base hits for the Weyburn Beavers. He doubled in the fourth inning and homered in the fifth inning.

Brandon Conlin got the win for the Weyburn Beavers thanks to eight strikeouts. Conlin allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks over six innings.

Connor Burns ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.

The Weyburn Beavers' Wylie Johnston, Anthony Balderama, Mallonee and Lavallee combined for nine hits and seven RBIs.
