Five first-inning runs helped the SBA Bones (3-1) to a 9-6 win over the Lake Norman Copperheads (1-4) at Billings Field at Hopewell High on Saturday.

The SBA Bones scored in the first on a two-run double by Malachi Hanes, a wild pitch, , and an error.

Hanes racked up five RBIs on three hits for the SBA Bones.

Erik Markwat brought the heat against the Lake Norman Copperheads during his outing. Markwat held the Lake Norman Copperheads hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Matthew Ball improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the SBA Bones. Ball struck out two, walked none and gave up two hits.

John Creel (0-1) took the loss for the Lake Norman Copperheads. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked none and struck out four.
