An outstanding effort by Eric Nerl carried the Yorkton Cardinals (18-19) to a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Prospects (16-19) on Wednesday at Athlete's Nation Park.
Nerl held the Edmonton Prospects scoreless during his nine innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out two.
Tristen Rizek had two extra-base hits for the Yorkton Cardinals. He doubled in the second and seventh innings.
Despite the loss, the Edmonton Prospects' Bradley J. Smith dominated the Yorkton Cardinals' batters, giving up one run and striking out six.
J. Smith ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year.
