The Medicine Hat Mavericks (14-12) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Okotoks Dawgs (15-11) on Saturday at Athletic Park.

The Okotoks Dawgs took the lead in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Brendan Hendriks.

Austin Guzzon baffled the Medicine Hat Mavericks, striking out seven batters. Guzzon allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks over seven innings.

Despite the loss, the Medicine Hat Mavericks' Zac Wittmus dominated the Okotoks Dawgs' batters, giving up three runs and striking out five.

Tyrell King improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Okotoks Dawgs. King struck out one, walked none and gave up one hit.

Wittmus ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
