A superb effort by Dustin Doucette carried the Weyburn Beavers (6-1) to a 9-1 win over the Melville Millionaires (1-6) on Thursday at Tom Laing Park.
Doucette struck out 10 hitters en route to the the Weyburn Beavers win. The Weyburn Beavers' pitcher tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.
The offense exploded for the the Weyburn Beavers in the first. The Weyburn Beavers' bats caught fire leading to five runs. The Weyburn Beavers scored in the first on a groundout by Price Peters, a two-run home run by Corey Harrel, an RBI double by Colin Rintoul, and a two-run double by Marcus Blackmon Jr.
Curtis Johnson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
Blackmon Jr, Harrel, Alex Jones and Dan Moro helped lead the Weyburn Beavers. They combined for eight hits and six RBIs.
