Three first-inning runs helped the Evansville Otters (28-17) to an 8-5 win over the Schaumburg Boomers (20-25) at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium on Saturday.
The Evansville Otters scored in the first on an RBI double by Jeremy Nowak, an RBI double by Nowak, and an RBI double by Dane Phillips.
Phillips was solid at the plate for the Evansville Otters. Phillips went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs.
Tyler Vail had an impressive outing against the Schaumburg Boomers' lineup. Vail gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked five and struck out five during his six innings of work.
Cam Sherrer reached base three times. He tripled in the fifth inning and singled in the ninth inning.
Edwin Carl (1-4) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
