The Ballantyne Smokies (5-2) jumped out to an early lead on the Carolina Vipers (1-5) and captured an 8-0 victory on Friday.
The game was decided quickly as the Ballantyne Smokies exerted their will early with five runs in the first three innings.
A groundout by Mitchell Price in the first inning and an RBI double by Reid Anderson and a two-run error during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Ballantyne Smokies.Dan Stoltzfus was solid at the plate for the Ballantyne Smokies. Stoltzfus went 2-2, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second, third, and sixth innings.
Brandon Donahue got the win for the Ballantyne Smokies thanks to four strikeouts. The Ballantyne Smokies' pitcher gave up just four hits over five shutout innings.
