Mike Devine hopes every outing could go as well as Thursday, as Devine tossed eight scoreless innings to carry the Normal CornBelters (31-33) to a 2-0 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners (39-26) at The Corn Crib.
The Normal CornBelters were led by Santiago Chirino's hitting. Chirino went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and homered in the sixth inning.
Rick Teasley allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.
Teasley ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year.
