The Southern Illinois Miners (22-19) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 3-1 to the Washington Wild Things (26-15) on Wednesday.

While the Southern Illinois Miners led until the fifth inning, the Washington Wild Things worked their way back and took the lead on a two-run double by Connor Lewis.

Matt Purnell brought the heat against the Southern Illinois Miners during his outing. Purnell held the Southern Illinois Miners hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.

Miguel Ramirez (3-3) took the loss for the Southern Illinois Miners. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out eight, and allowed three runs.
