The Weyburn Beavers (20-26) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 4-1 ballgame against the Regina Red Sox (30-16) on Wednesday at Currie Field.
A two-run single by Nick Tanner gave the Regina Red Sox the lead in the fourth inning.
Tyler Shumpert brought the heat against the Weyburn Beavers during his outing. Shumpert held the Weyburn Beavers hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Despite the loss, the Weyburn Beavers' John Pistulka dominated the Regina Red Sox's batters, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Jesse Baird got the win, running his season record to 2-4. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out five, walked three and surrendered four hits.
Pistulka (0-3) was the game's losing pitcher.
