An exceptional effort by Denis Lyman lifted the Butler Blue Sox (7-5) to a 2-0 win over the West Virginia Miners (5-8) on Wednesday at Pullman Park.
The West Virginia Miners had no answer for Lyman, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The West Virginia Miners managed just one hit off of the the Butler Blue Sox's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out nine during his six innings of work.
Cody Herald led the Butler Blue Sox's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the third inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
Ryan Lavoie (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked five, struck out none, and allowed one run.
