Shane Conlon went 2-3, helping the Orleans Firebirds (1-1) to a 4-3 victory over the Harwich Mariners (1-1) on Wednesday at Whitehouse Field.
He doubled in the third inning and singled in the eighth inning.The Orleans Firebirds relied on Bobby Poyner to eat up innings en route to the win. Poyner allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk while striking out three over seven innings of work.
Nick Howard was effective even in defeat, mowing down nine the Orleans Firebirds batters and allowing three runs.
AJ Reed was hot from the plate for the Harwich Mariners. Reed went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the seventh inning.
Howard ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
