An excellent effort by Bubba Derby carried the Bethesda Big Train (1-1) to an 8-0 win over the Rockville Express on Thursday at Shirley Povich Field.

Derby's nine strikeouts were enough to push the Bethesda Big Train past the Rockville Express (1-2). The Bethesda Big Train's pitcher tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed only two hits.

The Bethesda Big Train blew out the Rockville Express thanks to 12 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Bethesda Big Train scored three runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Josh Spano and an error.

Ryne Willard put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the Bethesda Big Train. He singled in the first inning, homered in the sixth inning, and doubled in the fourth and eighth innings.

Joshua Baker ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.

The Bethesda Big Train's Ty France, Spano and Willard combined for nine hits and four RBIs.
