Early lead not enough for the Herndon Braves, drop 4-3 decision to the Vienna River Dogs

The Herndon Braves (1-3) built an early edge on Wednesday, but the Vienna River Dogs (2-1) roared back to steal a 4-3 victory at James Madison High School.

The Vienna River Dogs took the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Bobby San Martin.

Quinn Pippin was hot from the plate for the Vienna River Dogs. Pippin went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second, fourth, and eighth innings.

The Herndon Braves couldn't get anything going as long as Joseph Vanderplas was on the mound. The Herndon Braves managed just three hits off of the the Vienna River Dogs' pitcher, who allowed three earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his six innings of work.

Jake Barnes racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Herndon Braves. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the ninth inning.

Mitchell MacKeith recorded his first win of the year for the Vienna River Dogs. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered three hits.

Jeremy Charles (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
