A five-run explosion in the second inning spurred the San Angelo Colts (3-0) to an 8-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (0-3) on Saturday.

Chris Caves reached base three times in the game for the San Angelo Colts. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the seventh inning and singled in the ninth inning.

The San Angelo Colts relied on Demetrius Banks to eat up innings en route to the win. Banks pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Nathan Johnson couldn't get it done on the mound for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.
