Brett Kauten had three RBIs, sparking the Brazos Valley Bombers (6-0) to a 9-6 victory over the Woodlands Strykers (0-5) on Wednesday at AMB Ballpark.
He singled in the first, fourth, sixth, and eighth innings.Bryce Rutherford looked sharp on the mound. The Woodlands Strykers managed just three hits off of Rutherford, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out three during his six innings of work.
Conner Fikes racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Woodlands Strykers. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the seventh and ninth innings.
The Brazos Valley Bombers had no answer for Zach Heard, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Heard gave up just three hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his four innings of work.
Nolan Riggs ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out three.
