Three first-inning runs helped the So. Ohio Copperheads (14-6) to a 6-2 win over the Lake Erie Monarchs (5-13) at Ned Skeldon Stadium on Tuesday.

James Coates reached base three times. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the first and sixth innings.

Jordan Peterson picked up the win for the So. Ohio Copperheads. Peterson allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out five over eight innings of work.

Heath Loyd had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the second and fifth innings.

Michael Dolloff couldn't get it done on the mound for the Lake Erie Monarchs, taking a loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
