Luke Gibbs was cold coming off the bench, but Gibbs warmed up quickly as Gibbs stroked a key pinch-hit double in the six to lead the Ballantyne Smokies (10-6) to a 4-3 win over the Pineville Pioneers (7-9) on Thursday at Ardrey Kell HS.

With the Ballantyne Smokies trailing by one, Gibbs came to the plate and doubled.

Samuel Ross was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Ballantyne Smokies batters and allowing two runs.

Matt Vollenweider got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered two hits.

CJ Harris (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
