The Carolina Vipers (5-11) and the Ballantyne Smokies (9-6) both had scoring chances on Monday, but it was the Carolina Vipers that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 3-1 win at East Mecklenburg HS.
Eric Kimber had a hot bat for the Carolina Vipers. Kimber went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the first and seventh innings.
Michael Trombino handled the Ballantyne Smokies' lineup with ease, racking up six strikeouts. Trombino allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks over five innings.
Garrison Roy got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered one hit.
Steffen Simmons couldn't get it done on the bump for the Ballantyne Smokies, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
