Four first-inning runs helped the Statesville Owls (5-8) to an 8-4 win over the Carolina Vipers (5-11) at Statesville Aggies Home Field on Saturday.
Jalen Shuffler racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Statesville Owls. He doubled in the third inning.
The Carolina Vipers had no answer for Sean Grant, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Carolina Vipers managed just two hits off of Grant, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his four innings of work.
Ben Correll was charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out none.
