The Ballantyne Smokies (1-0) outlasted the Pineville Pioneers (0-1) on Tuesday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 8-6 win at Ardrey Kell HS.
The Ballantyne Smokies finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. A hit by pitch scored Taylor Fisher to give the Ballantyne Smokies the lead for good.
Fisher racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Ballantyne Smokies. He singled in the first inning.
Despite the loss, the Pineville Pioneers' Spencer Greer dominated the Ballantyne Smokies' batters, giving up one run and striking out five.
Matt Binder improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Ballantyne Smokies. He allowed three runs over three innings. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered one hit.
Greer couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Pineville Pioneers, taking a loss.
