The Cotuit Kettleers (6-1) beat the Orleans Firebirds (3-3) 6-3 on Wednesday at Eldredge Park behind Elliott Caldwell, who went 1-2 and hit a home run.

Jordan Luplow put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Orleans Firebirds. He homered in the fourth inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Cotuit Kettleers couldn't get anything going as long as Trent Szkutnik was on the mound. Szkutnik held the Cotuit Kettleers hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.

Ben Smith recorded his first win of the year for the Cotuit Kettleers. He allowed two runs over five innings. Smith struck out five, walked one and gave up four hits.

Kyle Twomey (0-1) took the loss for the Orleans Firebirds. He lasted just four innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
