The Southern Illinois Miners make the most of 11 hits in 6-5 victory over the Joliet Slammers

Both the Southern Illinois Miners (44-35) and the Joliet Slammers (32-47) put runners aboard on Friday, but it was the Southern Illinois Miners that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 6-5 win at Silver Cross Field.

Cannon Lester had three extra-base hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He tripled in the fifth inning and doubled in the third and seventh innings.

The Joliet Slammers had no answer for Race Parmenter, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Parmenter gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Jerod Yakubik racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Joliet Slammers. He singled in the first and seventh innings and doubled in the ninth inning.

Matt Dillon ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed two runs.

The Southern Illinois Miners were sparked by Steven Liddle and Lester, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs.
