Women win OT thriller against Brockport

The West Virginia ACHA women’s hockey team came back to win 6-5 in overtime against the Brockport Golden Eagles at the Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena to improve to 7-5-1.

 

Brockport scored just four minutes and three seconds into the game to make it 1-0.

 

West Virginia then tied it up with an Ella Miller unassisted goal with 6:42 left in the first period


The Golden Eagles then went ahead with 17:26 left in the second period, and made it 3-1 12 seconds later.


With 6:10 left in the period, Julianna Baibos scored to make it 3-2, assisted by Ally Schwind.


Two minutes and 47 seconds into the third period, Brockport scored to make it 4-2, but WVU scored with 13:49 left when Emma Brannare assisted Schwind to make the score 4-3.

 

And with 8:33 left, Jana Garrow and Bannare set up Marek Deffibaugh to tie the game at 4-4.

However, Brockport took the lead with 5:52 to go,

 

The Mountaineers weren't done though, as Garrow and Baibos assisted Miller during a four-on-four with 38.5 seconds left to make the score 5-5 and force overtime.

And one minute and 49 seconds into overtime, Garrow scored a breakaway goal assisted by Stephanie Chmiel to win the game.

 

The Mountaineers are back in action next Saturday when they take on the Oswego State Lakers at the Marano Campus Center.
