Defenseman Reece McDonald got his first taste of junior hockey last season and can’t wait to get started on year two.

“The Eagles have a well-rounded team, great coaches, and a good staff,” McDonald said.

The speedy 6’0, 160-lb defenseman began his junior hockey career with the Edmonton Eagles last season and is excited to give the Eagles’ fan base a sneak peek at what to expect.

“I like to move the puck up the ice, get shots to the net, and make plays,” McDonald declared.

Head Coach/General Manager Steve Haddon echoed the defenseman’s self-assessment.

“Reece plays an up tempo, high paced game. His agility on the blue line allows him to be very dynamic with the puck to make plays and find holes to get shots on net,” Haddon explained.

The 2005 birth year defenseman scored 12 points (1-11-12) in 37 games with the Edmonton Eagles last season and believes that his style of play will lead to even more offensive output this season.

“My goal for the upcoming season is to put the puck in the net,” McDonald said.

The young defenseman will be one of many players looking to fill the scoring column for an Eagles team that graduated 45% of their goal scoring from last season’s 29-win squad.

Even though he’s one of the younger signings for NoCo thus far, Haddon believes that the Sturgeon Lake, ALB product’s experience will carry him far.

“With a year of junior hockey under his belt and his dedication on and off the ice, Reece is poised to have a great season,” Haddon concluded.

Entering their 10th season of existence, the Eagles have graduated over 100 players to college commitments in the United States (NCAA) and Canada (U-Sports) in the premier Tier 2 developmental junior league in the USA, as well as professional contracts abroad. Eagles’ alumni dot the hockey landscape; playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), Poland and Sweden.
