Defenseman Evan Wammes missed out on the 2020-21 season with the Eagles due to the pandemic and the hulking 6’8”, 203-lb defenseman wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to return to NoCo.

“I chose the Eagles because of the culture. This team consists of players and coaches that have a common goal of striving to be the best,” stated Wammes.

Wammes is set to return for his third season with the Eagles. The Petrolia, Ontario product set career highs in all scoring categories and put away 33 points (11-22-33) in 49 games last season.

“[Evan] is a big part of our d-core. Last season, he made a huge impact as he really took his game to the next level,” relayed Head Coach/General Manager Steve Haddon.

Wammes tripled his production from his rookie season with the organization in 2019-20. The defenseman also chipped in four points during the playoff run to the Mountain Division Finals; a place where Wammes has his sights set further.

“This season I want to focus on being one of the top teams in the league and winning a championship,” he declared.

With seven players graduating from last year’s team, including defensive stalwart Bayly Fryfogle, the Eagles’ coaching staff believes Wammes is ready to fill that void.

“He understands our culture and what is expected day in and day out. His natural leadership skills help other players around him to be at their best,” remarked Haddon.

“We are all excited to have one more opportunity to work with Evan and help him on his hockey path,” he finished.

As the 2022-23 season moves ever closer, Wammes understands that his final year of junior hockey is still something to savor.

“I’m looking forward to going to the rink, playing with the boys, and just enjoying the sport,” Wammes reflected.

Entering their 10th season of existence, the Eagles have graduated over 100 players to college commitments in the United States (NCAA) and Canada (U-Sports), as well as professional contracts abroad. Eagles’ alumni dot the hockey landscape; playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), Poland and Sweden.
