The Big Sticks traveled to Spearfish on Tuesday for one game against the Sasquatch.
Starting on the mound for the Big Sticks, and coming off a no-hitter in his previous outing, was Josh Tucker. Pitcher for the Sasquatch would be Sean Moran facing the Big Sticks for his second time after going five innings and giving up five earned in his May 27th outing in Dickinson.
Moran would be greeted by a red-hot Big Sticks lineup, an offense that scored 46 runs in the past five games. The off day did not cool them off as they got on the scoreboard right away in the first thanks to an Angel de la Cruz RBI single to score Stafford.
The Big Sticks offense tacked on two more in the top of the third as got men in scoring position with no outs after a hit by Osborn and an extra-base hit by Stafford. Carson Lundmark proceeded to hit a sacrifice to center to move both runners, and Angel de la Cruz got his second RBI on a groundout to score the second run. The Sasquatch broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third after a Theo Hardy triple to set up a John McHenry sacrifice fly. Two walks and an error with two outs in the inning allowed another Sasquatch run to score.
Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth inning where the Sasquatch tied the game up on a solo home run by Cade Stuff to make it a 3-3 ballgame. Josh Tucker finished the inning and watched as Joe Osborn responded with a home run of his own, a three-run shot that almost made it to Wyoming to put the Sticks up 6-3 heading in the seventh inning stretch.
The Big Sticks scored two more in the ninth as Joe Osborn and Carson Lundmark each added one to their RBI total to extend the lead to 8-3. Relievers Brady Salyards and Michael Reddick didn’t even need as they went two innings and one innings respectively in scoreless relief.
The Sticks prevail in the Black Hills as they scored 8 runs on 13 hits with 1 error, while the Sasquatch could muster only 3 runs on 6 hits. The winning pitcher should be Josh Tucker, his third win, and the loss goes to Moran giving him his second of the season.
With the victory, the Big Sticks extend their winning streak to five, improving their record to 12-11, and the Sasquatch fall to 16-7.
The Big Sticks have another off day on Wednesday and head back to Spearfish on Thursday, June 24 for the second of two against the Sasquatch. First pitch on Thursday is set for 6:35 PM MDT.
