Date: Aug 12, 2021
May 5th, 2020 - The Port Hope Panthers of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) have announced that the club has hired Alex Guiney as the team's new General Manager.
"It's sad to see Dunny go, but with the COVID 19 pandemic many of us are thinking more about family and it became a priority for Shawn to be close to home," said Yvette Lagrois, Governor of the Port Hope Panthers. "We look forward to continuing to nurture a core group of players, infusing new talent, and taking the club to the next level with opportunities for players and staff to move up through junior hockey. Adding Alex as our General Manager and bringing his valuable talents to the Panthers will help us in this goal."
For the past three seasons, Guiney has served as an Assistant General Manager in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), spending the past two with the Trenton Golden Hawks. Prior to that Alex worked along-side Cobourg Cougars Head Coach David DeMarinis with the Pickering Panthers. Alex is a graduate of Queen's and Brock Universities and holds a degree in Sport Management.
"I am extremely excited to be joining one of the premier organizations in the PJHL. The Port Hope Panthers have a storied history of success and operational excellence. I am looking forward to working with the current players and staff - as well as the staff with the Cobourg Cougars - to ensure Port Hope remains one of the top destinations in Junior C." said Guiney.
In addition to his role with the Panthers, Guiney was also recently announced as Assistant General Manager and Director of Analytics with the Cobourg Cougars.
"Alex's role as Assistant GM with Cobourg and General Manager of the Panthers further entrenches our organizations' fully integrated player and staff development model," said Adam Yahn, General Manager of the Cobourg Cougars. "I am excited to be working with him to develop our prospects so they can move on to higher levels within hockey here in Northumberland County."
