The 18U Astros completed a very successful fall road trip.
As previously reported, the Astros 18U began their fall trip competing in the University of Indianapolis All-Scout Wood Bat Tournament, defeating the 5 Star Midwest –McCourt Team 8-1 and the Indiana Astros 2-0 in pool play. Then they defeated 5 Star Midwest Gullet team 7-0 in the semi=final. Silver was to be the takeaway as the boys dropped a hard-fought final to the Indiana Prospects 8-5.
The boys then departed on a college road trip to Iowa and Illinois, playing US Junior Colleges and 4-year program teams. The boys played some very tough competition including the number 2 Junior College program in the country in Western Iowa and did earn one win with a 13-11 victory over the Northern Iowa Trojans.
The team then travelled to the DSP World Series in Chicago, Illinois. The team went 4-0 and captured the championship with a 4-1 victory over the Illinois Hawks, a 9-0 win over Force Elite from Illinois, and back to back victories over the Chicago Pirates 7-1 and 5-3.
The team’s success has been attributed to strong starting pitching, solid defense and timely hitting.
The boys are now preparing for a game with McMaster U next Wednesday and the final fall event, the Grand Park - Fall Prospect Wood Bat National Championship in the Indianapolis area, October 20 and 21.
