New York Yankees to Honor 12D This Friday!
Date: Aug 29, 2019
Fairfield American Little League is pleased to announce that an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has now been installed at Mill Hill Field. Our hope is that over time we will have one at every Little League Field in town and that hopefully we will never actually have to use one.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Statistics have demonstrated that every minute that goes by without an AED being administered can result in up to a 10% reduction in survival.
The AED is self explanatory once activated for ease of use. In addition, we've pasted simple instructions next the device at Mill Hill. Also, please note, that in the spring of '18 we will be conducting our annual CPR training class where AED instruction is demonstrated.
We'd like to thank the Robbie Levine Foundation out of Long Island, and Robert Vanderbes from Emergency Medical Group here in Fairfield, CT for donating this device to our organization. In addition, we'd like to thank Jay Tolisano, a fellow Fairfield American coach for his tireless efforts in bringing CPR training and awareness to those in the Fairfield community.
The Robbie Levine Foundation was formed in 2005, after Robbie Levine, 9 years old at the time, went into cardiac arrest and died on the baseball field. His family has been donating AED's since that time to organizations across the country.
If you are interested to learn more about the AEDs or possibly donating to help us secure devices at additional fields, please email our safety officer Phil Veas (pveas@yahoo.com).
