The Smiths Falls Bears did the ol’ goalie switcheroo on Friday night as they shot back from a 3-0 deficit against the Gloucester Rangers to take a 4-3 win, but they didn’t do that the easy way.

The Bears Michael McKenney was the third man called upon in the shootout as the teams couldn’t settle their 3-3 deadlock after regulation and a scoreless overtime period.

Bradley Dobson, who was peppered by the Rangers’ snipers in the opening period, faced 12 shots and allowed three goals.

Bo Taylor then replaced the rookie netminder, who was on point and turned away the remaining 30 shots on the crease.

Gloucester opened up the game with three first-period goals, from Nicolas Seguin, and Drew Shields with two, including a power play marker at 13:09 of the period.

The teams battled back and fourth in the second but it remained scoreless.

In the third, Kyle Dowdall started the rally for the Bears with his power play goal at 2:38, assisted by Ethan Coltart.

Dowdall had the next goal at 8:25, assisted by Matthieu Franche and McKenney.

It was at 14:33 when McKenney tied the rally, as he was helped out by Alex Kealey and Tre Folkes, forcing the extra period, and the eventual shootout to settle this one.

The teams were relatively tame regarding penalties, as the Bears were whistled on just three minors to Gloucester’s six minors.

There were 350 fans in attendance. Game stars were Dowdall (first) for Smiths Falls; Drew Shields (second) for Gloucester, and Taylor (third) for Smiths Falls.

Smiths Falls is in Cumberland on Sunday for a 3 p.m. showdown.
