QUINCY -- The Quincy Gems' scoreless streak reached 20 innings on Wednesday night as they were shut out for the second consecutive game in a 6-0 loss to the Kokomo Jackrabbits in a Prospect League game at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
The Gems are 20-25 overall and 2-12 in the second half. The Gems are hitting .212 as a team in July and averaging 3.3 runs per game.
The game was scoreless entering the fourth inning when Kokomo scored first on Alex Del Rio's RBI triple. The Jackrabbits scored three more runs in the fifth and knocked Quincy starter Cameron Sanders out of the game.
Kokomo scored a run in the sixth against reliever Ben Sellers and a run in the eighth against reliever Scott Gorsuch.
Quincy's first scoring chance came in the fourth when Trey Mathis singled and Dean Nevarez was hit by a pitch, but Michael Nielsen flew out to right to end the threat.
Quincy had two runners reach base in the sixth when Mathis and Deion Thompson walked, but C.J. Schaeffer struck out to end the inning.
Jackrabbits relievers Parker Sanborn and Matthew Ulrich set down the last 10 Gems batters they faced.
