Saints' Players Reach Milestones
Date: Feb 13, 2012
The Central Wisconsin Saints came into a must-win game on Sunday morning against the St. Louis Frontenacs. The winner of the contest would vault into a playoffs spot while the loser would be on the outside looking in.
As has become the tradition this season, Andrew Jarvis scored first for St. Louis. It was not in the first minute, but just under four minutes into the game the Saints were trailing again. Tim Livingston and Brendan Pavia were credited with assists.
The Saints did respond before the end of the first period. Max Culp took a slap shot from the blue line entering the zone and it trickled through the five-hole on Bryan Lowrey for Culp's 27th of the season. Devin Fracassi and Jeremy Ebert were given assisting tallies.
Central Wisconsin jumped into the lead in the second period with a shorthanded goal. Jeremy Ebert took a Culp pass in the slot and fired a bullet off the post and in past Lowery.
St. Louis struck back on the rush with Tim Livingston. Brendan Pavia passed Livingston the puck and he made no mistake tucking it home behind Steven Salek after dodging the poke-check.
Livingston scored a beautiful goal later on the penalty kill for the second shorthander of the game. He raced in on the rush, shrugged off Antonio Falcon and with one hand on his stick, roofed it over Salek for his third point of the game.
The Saints recovered in the third period when Mike Mitch walked out from below the goal line and whistled the puck past Lowery to tie the game. Ian Dart and Kyle Harnish assisted on the play.
The game wasn't decided until the final minute. Max Culp found Jeremy Ebert who wound up a slap shot with just 52 seconds remaining in regulation. The shot snuck in above the shoulder of Lowery and the Saints had their second lead of the game.
Max Culp extended that lead just 9 seconds later. He found himself one-on-one with Michael Cobb and cut to the outside. He wristed as shot that beat Lowery and seal the win for Central Wisconsin.
Central Wisconsin maintained their lead over St. Louis in the playoffs race. Both teams will battle for the rest of the season for the final spot in the Western Conference.
The Saints return to action Friday, February 3rd in St. Louis for a series rematch. Their next home series begins February 10th against the Indianapolis Inferno.
Notes: Kenton Grulkowski was scratched for the second straight game with a head injury...Mikey Tiberi missed his third game with severe flu-like symptoms...With the win the Saints ended a 6-game losing streak and ended St. Louis' 6-game winning streak.
