Columbus beats Knoxville 3-2 after comeback scare

The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the scoring touch of Louis Belisle, who netted two goals, to beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 6-3.
Belisle found the back of the net 9:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Columbus and again while 6:47 into the third to make the score 4-2 Columbus.Columbus failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 24 pucks on goal after averaging 30.2 shots per game this season. The Cottonmouths outdid their season average for goals scored. Columbus has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Cottonmouths took advantage of Pensacola's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Columbus got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Columbus additionally got points from Matt Gingera, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Shawn Bates, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Bryce Williamson also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Andy Willigar, who had two, Ben OQuinn, who had three, and Nick Curry and Mike Switzer, who each chipped in one.
The Ice Flyers put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.9 they average per game.
Pensacola was helped by Nick Larson, who registered one goal and one assist. Larson scored on the power play 15:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Ice Flyers had taken the advantage when the Cottonmouths' Patrick McCadden got sent off for tripping. Adam Pawlick picked up the assist. Pensacola also got points from Steve Bergin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Nick McParland and Shaun Arvai, who contributed one each.
Columbus' Shannon Szabados stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Cottonmouths ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Max Strang made 18 saves for Pensacola on 23 shots. The Ice Flyers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
